According to the video site, videos uploaded as unlisted won’t come up in search results and also won’t appear on users’ channel lists. According to YouTube, the only way for individuals to access unlisted videos is if the owner has shared the link with them.

However, thanks to a few Internet masterminds, there are a select number of proven techniques for accessing unlisted content. While there’s no exact way to locate specific unlisted videos, searchers with a little extra time will likely be able to find the video they’re looking for. With these techniques in mind, YouTube users should be aware of the content they’re posting, even if it’s unlisted; nothing is private online and everything lasts forever.

Google Search

Though YouTube claims that unlisted content can’t be accessed through an Internet search, this isn’t quite true. Most unlisted videos contain the disclaimer “This video is unlisted. Only those with the link can see it.” By running the google query “site:youtube.com ‘This video is unlisted. Only those with the link can see it’ -inurl:all_comments,” users will be able to view a limited number of unlisted videos. This technique uncovers about 70 different unlisted video results. While this approach is imperfect, it demonstrates the imprecise security of unlisted YouTube links.

Unlisted Videos

A New Zealand website by the name of Unlisted Videos contains links to — you guessed it — unlisted videos. The site offers nearly 65,000 videos which Internet users can filter through according to all videos, random videos, and playlists. Users can also submit their own unlisted YouTube video URLs and search the website by specific channel names and keyword tags. The site follows guidelines intended to prevent privacy breaches. Under these rules, it displays unlisted videos owned by celebrities, businesses, and musicians, but not those of the average individual.

Playlist View

Thanks to one YouTube flaw, unlisted videos become visible when placed in a playlist. Videos located in the playlist will be visible to users via both the API as well as the YouTube website itself regardless of whether they have the unlisted link, but only via the playlist view. The unlisted content will still not be accessible through a search and will still not be visible on the owner’s channel or uploads playlist.

<![CDATA[Soon You’ll Be Able To Stream Live TV on YouTube]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/soon-youll-able-stream-live-tv-youtube/ Thu, 06 Apr 2017 20:00:02 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=9592 If you don’t have cable TV, and are tired of missing out on events or shows that you can’t live-stream or access online, then worry no more. YouTube will soon be launching YouTube TV, which will allow you to pay $35 per month to access select basic cable and cable networks. With YouTube TV, you can have six accounts per household. If you decide that the service is not for you, you can cancel at any time — no long-term contract is required to access the service.

Currently, you can sign up on YouTube’s website to be notified on when YouTube TV will be available in your location. You’ll also receive a list of which networks will be available through the service in your area. Some of the networks may include CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX, among many others. The service is expected to launch in New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia first. It is unknown when and where else the service will be offered.

YouTube TV is Finally Here

YouTube TV has been in development for years, as Google worked on contracts with various networks. Although networks may have been previously hesitant to offer their services online, it will certainly be a successful move as TV moves online more and more. YouTube should have a lot of success with their new live TV package, if recent trends are any indication. Fewer people own TVs now or cable packages, instead preferring to access their TV content through streaming services like Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Amazon online.

Although a comprehensive list of the networks involved with YouTube TV is unknown, there have been many leaks on the subject. In addition to the networks mentioned above, many Disney-owned networks are expected to be involved, in addition to ESPN, the CW, USA, FX, FXX, Sprout, E!, SyFy, NatGeo, Freeform, MSNBC, Bravo, and CNBC, among others. You will also be able to access Showtime content for an additional fee. A wide variety of sports channels are also included, such as several ESPN channels, FS1, FS2, and the Golf channel, among others. You can get the Fox Soccer Plus channel for an additional fee, as well.

YouTube TV will include the original TV shows from YouTube Red. YouTube TV will also offer unlimited, cloud-based DVR space and simultaneous recordings. Further, you’ll be able to access the service on multiple devices. The service will offer you recommendations based on your viewing activity and interests, too.

<![CDATA[What Were the Most Popular Apps of 2016?]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/popular-apps-2016/ Tue, 17 Jan 2017 22:10:28 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=7034 With the prevalence of smartphones, and the amount of time we spend using them, apps have become a central part of our lives: they dictate how we communicate with our friends and family, what and how we share, as well as how we spend our time. So, here’s a look back at some of the most popular apps of 2016, and what made them so vastly popular.

Facebook and Messenger

It should come as no surprise that both the Facebook app and its Messenger app were among the most downloaded apps of the year. With over one billion regular users, Facebook is the most popular social network in the world, and Messenger is its instant messaging service. With text, voice, and video messaging capabilities between individuals or groups, as well as the option to call friends around the world, Messenger has become one of the most widely used methods of smartphone communication.

YouTube

YouTube, the go-to place for video content on the Internet, was also extremely popular. According to the video hub, about 1/3 of the people who use the Internet use YouTube. Every single day people around the world watch hundreds of millions of hours of YouTube content. And the majority of them do so using their smartphones.

Instagram

As of December 2016, the community boasted 600 million Instagrammers; 100 million of them joined in the last six months. It was the year that they introduced Instagram Stories, a feature that lets users post photos and videos that appear as a slideshow and last for 24 hours. The update has been widely embraced, even though it is very similar to Snapchat’s Stories feature.

Snapchat

Speaking of Snapchat, the photo and video-sending app was also among the most used apps of the year. The app allows users to share images and short videos that disappear after seconds, as well as slideshows that last a day. In the US, 60% of young smartphone users are on Snapchat. And now, with seemingly endless opportunities to get creative by taking advantage of filters, geotags, stickers, and drawing capabilities, it’s no wonder the app was so popular in 2016.

Pokémon Go

This app exploded onto the digital scene in 2016. Harnessing the popularity of Pokémon over the last two decades, the app uses augmented reality, which connects real-world locations and geography with virtual components. Within days of the app’s release, millions of users were walking the streets of their neighborhoods in search of Pokémon to catch. Although the initial fervor around the app has died down considerably, there’s no doubt that Pokémon Go was one of the most popular apps of the year.

<![CDATA[How to Play YouTube Videos When Your Phone Screen is Off]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/play-youtube-videos-phone-screen-off/ Mon, 14 Nov 2016 21:28:54 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=5762 Like most devices, your Android will pause any YouTube video you are playing whenever you lock your phone. This can be an annoying feature if you’d prefer to listen to the audio from a video, rather than watch a video, while you do other tasks. Perhaps you want to listen to a YouTube video with the screen off to preserve your phone’s battery life. Or, you want to listen to a news podcast, a live musical performance, or a cooking show without the distraction of the video footage. Whatever your reason, there are a few different ways that you can continue to play a YouTube video on a locked — or black — Android screen.

YouTube Red

This subscription service, available for $9.99/month, offers background play and offline access for uninterrupted listening. Simply adjust the background and offline settings in the YouTube app to ensure that your device continues to play the audio from videos when your screen is locked. Other features of the service include ad-free videos and original YouTube shows.

Download the Firefox App

This browser app will allow you to play YouTube videos in the background with your phone screen off, but with minimal control of the videos. After downloading the app, go to the settings to request the desktop version of Firefox. Then go to the YouTube website and click on the video you want to play in the background. This process will allow the audio to continue to play, even when your phone screen is off.

Simulate a Locked Screen

If you don’t care if your phone is actually locked, download Blackr by Neximo Labs. It is a free app available in the Play store. The app offers a way to simulate a black, locked screen so that you can continue to run various apps on your phone, such as YouTube, without the distraction of video footage or draining your phone battery. Other free black screen apps are available in the Play store as well.

Secure Your Device with PSafe

There are many different ways that malware can infect your device — even YouTube can be affected by malware now and then. However, many malicious apps are designed to mimic popular apps in the Play store. These malicious apps can be downloaded thousands of times before Google can remove them. Avoid suspicious-looking apps, such as apps with off-looking designs or apps that request unnecessary permissions or information from your phone. Cyber awareness is the first step in protecting your device against malware. The next step you can take is to download antivirus software. Download PSafe Total for your Android to protect your device against malicious threats 24/7.

<![CDATA[How to Track a Viral Hit Video on YouTube as it Happens]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/track-viral-hit-video-youtube-happens/ Thu, 27 Oct 2016 11:50:49 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=5172 You may not make it to Broadway, but YouTube is an equally effective way of reaching nationwide fame. However, in order to achieve this fame, you will need to attract viewers. Here are a few analytical tools available so you can observe the ascension of your YouTube video hits.

YouTube Analytics
YouTube.com/Analytics will provide you with all of the tools necessary to track how your videos are doing. No need to download any third party apps, because YouTube will provide you with all of the tools necessary.

To start, you can filter your data. At the top of each report, you can apply a filter for further observation. For instance, you can filter by content, geographical location, date or time frame, subscriber status, and traffic by YouTube product (if it is available). You can also utilize a search function to search for content, location of viewers, and etc.

This data filter is a good start, but YouTube Analytics offers several graphical options that can help you visually interpret the progress of your videos. For example, you can implement a line chart that shows how your data has changed longitudinally overtime. You can also combine several line graphs on one template. For instance, you can juxtapose your viewing dynamics with total subscribers obtained. The multi-line graph will allow you to add up to 25 items into the template.

There is also the option of using a pie chart to help visualize your data. Like the multi-line graph, the pie chart will allow you to add up to 25 items to observe their relative size or impact on your channel. You hover your mouse over each section of the pie chart to see what item the chart is corresponding to. One big flaw of the pie charts is that you can’t see how these dynamics vary chronologically, so you must use the line or multi-line graphs to view this data.

Lastly, there is an interactive map that can help you visualize the global impact of your video. The map will display dark spots over each of the areas where your video has been watched. You can also click on individual countries to see more detailed information about how your video is being viewed in that country.

<![CDATA[Review of Your Favorite Music App: YouTube]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/review-favorite-music-app-youtube/ Fri, 16 Sep 2016 21:05:46 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=3798 You hear a new song on the radio and you want to find out the name of it and who it’s by. How do most of us find it? By searching YouTube. Now YouTube is not just a search engine for songs or music video, it’s the next best streaming service on our phones.

Set Up

The set up is simple. Download the app and sign in with a google account. That’s it.

How it Works

After, you will see the app’s home screen with three distinct tabs. The first tab, the one with the home symbol, features stations that are customized to your music tastes based on what you’ve browsed in the past. In addition, you’ll see genre stations that coincide with the types of music you’ve already listened too. It doesn’t end there; below these are new listening options like your recently played videos, recommended videos, more suggestions, and new music.

The second tab, the one with the fire symbol, is meant to help you keep up with music trends. The common categories listed include “The Daily 40” or “On the Rise,” as determined by the larger Youtube community. Also included, a “trending now” section as well as new music sorted by genre.

Lastly, denoted by the thumbs up symbol, the third tab collects all the previous songs you’ve liked in the past. This will allow users easy access to their favorite songs and videos.

To play the videos, click on any of the videos to open the music player. While watching a video, users can also search through other versions of the content like fans performing a song or related videos. To do this just switch from the “Playing Now” screen to the “Explore” screen.

If you’ve moved back to the “Playing Now” tab, you’ll find buttons that will allow you to like/dislike the video you’re watching as well as a sharing tool. To exit the player, just tap the video you’re watching, a down arrow should appear in the upper left-hand corner on the video. After, the video will now display as a preview bar on the bottom of the screen.

Other Features

On the top corner of the home screen you’ll see a magnifying glass and a button with three lines. The magnifying class allows the user to search by song, artist, or album through the entire YouTube music database. The three-lined button allows users the options to switch google or YouTube accounts, access your recently played music, and options for the health center, feedback, and more settings.

<![CDATA[How Hackers Can Get Into Your Device Through a YouTube Video]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/hackers-can-get-device-youtube-video/ Fri, 19 Aug 2016 13:50:10 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=3060 Non-encrypted websites, such as YouTube, can be used as a tool for hackers to gain access to your smartphone or another Android device. Unencrypted YouTube video streams can be filled with malicious code, which will allow the hacker to gain control over the computer, smartphone, or other device, unbeknownst to the user.

Hackers sometimes set their sights on a specific target. When this person is targeted, the hacker finds a way to physically access their device. YouTube videos are one way in which hackers can physically access the smartphone or another Android device of a targeted victim. A hacker can simply insert malicious code into an unencrypted YouTube video that the victim may watch and, when watched, the code makes its way onto the device of the victim. This allows the hacker to gain access to all of the information on the device.

Read More: YouTube: 5 Most Disliked Videos

Mangled voice commands hidden in YouTube videos can be used as a manner in which to insert the malicious code. Devices that execute voice commands can pick up on these mangled commands and execute them. The mangled command typically works by instructing the device to download and install malware. The victim of this type of attack may have all of his or her data that is kept on the device compromised.

The good news is that this type of hacking attack is complicated and is usually directed at specific targets. Thus, the ordinary YouTube video watcher does not have to worry about being hacked in this nature, at least not until the hacking technology is improved. Hopefully, YouTube will find a way to improve upon the security of its videos by then.

PSafe and Hacking

PSafe products can help to protect a device from being vulnerable to hacking attacks. PSafe Total, contains Antivirus protection that helps to guard a device against malware and other online threats. In addition, it includes features such as Advanced Protection, which protects your phone from third-party uninstalls, and Anti-theft, which allows you to block or wipe your data in case your phone is lost or stolen.

<![CDATA[YouTube Gaming: Find a New Way to Play]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/youtube-gaming-find-new-way-play/ Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:39:45 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=1859 If you’ve ever been on YouTube, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed the impact video games have on the site’s success. While some of us can recall growing up in a time when gaming meant firing up “Mario Kart 64” at a buddy’s house, or wasting a few hours on “Halo 2” multiplayer, the gaming world today has evolved into an incredibly diverse, and community-driven social phenomenon, and sites like YouTube are a big reason why.

Gaming culture has spawned entirely new genres of content, from walkthroughs and speedruns to “let’s plays” and music videos. It’s rare to find a popular channel these days that doesn’t post gaming content. Even the site’s most famous personalities, most subscribed channels, and most viewed videos (excluding the VEVO-branded channels) owe their success to gaming.

Welcome to YouTube Gaming
The developer team at Google, responsible for YouTube, isn’t lost on gaming’s popularity, and in June of 2016, launched YouTube Gaming. Developed as a likely response to other dedicated gaming platforms, like Twitch, YouTube Gaming is an all new app, and website designed to be a central hub for all things gaming. Using a slightly tweaked version of YouTube’s classic user interface, YouTube Gaming is awash in gaming media. Over 25,000 popular titles, ranging from “Asteroids” to “Zelda,” have dedicated pages, each linking to all the most popular videos, and streams involving that game. You can even customize your feed to show the games, personalities, and content you love most.

Read More: Why YouTube Red Is Worth Your Time

At the center of YouTube’s new platform is a focus on live streaming. Live streaming is an integral element of casual, and competitive gaming culture that has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years. With the popularity of eSports growing across the globe, and receiving major television coverage on US networks like ESPN, there’s never been a greater time for media companies to offer platforms supporting this service. To reflect its growing importance, live streaming videos are displayed prominently at the top of each user’s homepage.

Get in the Game
If you’re genuinely interested in gaming culture, or just want to see what all the fuss is about, YouTube Gaming is currently live, and available for anyone to use. If you want to get in on the action yourself, and share moments from your favorite video games, simply create a new account on the site directly, or log in with one of your existing YouTube or Google accounts. Once you’re in, sit back, grab a controller (or some popcorn), and prepare to be entertained.

<![CDATA[Why News Feeds Are Crucial to Social Media Success]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/news-feeds-crucial-social-media-success/ Thu, 16 Jun 2016 20:40:35 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=1524 To have access to the Internet is to be familiar with the news feed. In the slim chance you’re unfamiliar, a news feed is an online space where you can scroll through a list of posts about the different people, and events in your social network. Every version of social media boasts some kind of news feed setup. They all have an option for you to see what people are doing, saying, or feeling. Even apps like Venmo (for money sharing), or LinkedIn (for business networking) have a news feed space, where you can see what everyone else is doing on the site. What is it about news feeds that are so appealing?

Connectivity
Since the incoming of the millennial generation, people are accustomed to, and obsessed with, knowing what all the people in their social network are doing. Apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter rely on news feeds to keep you up-to-date on your friends’ daily lives, and major events. The ability to scroll through a string of posts, and get immediate information about what is happening to those around you, is appealing to a generation increasingly obsessed with having a hold on their social group’s whereabouts.

Comparison
People in the technology age are inherently nosy. We love knowing exactly what other people are doing, wearing, and even thinking. News feeds give us quick details that satisfy this nosiness, though many of us use them for comparison’s sake. You can easily scroll through a list of posts, and compare your beach vacation to your coworker’s, or the cuteness of your dog to your aunt’s new puppy. A news feed gives us the ability to fulfill our need for comparison, and get immediate affirmation about just how good our lives are.

Convenience
Ultimately, gathering information from this format is just easy. By scrolling through a newsfeed, a viewer gets a new bit of information every few seconds, appealing to the ever-shortening attention span. Quickly checking the news, and seeing what the people in our area, and social network are up to, involves minimal finger movement, minimal time, and minimal attention. In a population increasingly interested in being more efficient, and more productive, a news feed is the quickest option for satisfying our need for information.

Keep on Scrolling
Ultimately, all the news feeds you’re seeing on your Android apps reflect a demand for constant information, updates, and access. It’s what people are looking for! In the age of staying connected, there couldn’t be more options, and yet, more and more social networks arrive every year.

If you are looking to have a few more news feeds in your life, check out our blog posts on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and more.
