It’s largely considered to be the tech of the future. One of the experiences that users want to have on VR headsets is a 3D movie streaming experience. While several movie screening options for VR headsets are certainly in beta, the following will describe a few methods you can use to watch videos on your headset. No matter which way you choose to watch movies on your VR headset, you’ll be sure to find the movie-watching app or method that works best for you.

Use an app to stream movies.

Apps like BigScreen Beta and Virtual Desktop let you stream movies on your headset. Some of the benefits of using an app include the fact that you can customize the size of your screen, change the background color of the screen, or even change the distance that the screen is from you. Additionally, with an app, you can either watch a movie by yourself or invite friends to watch with you in a virtual theater. To stream movies from apps, you simply put in a DVD or else stream a movie from a service like Netflix or Amazon (like you would on your laptop or computer).

Connect your VR headset to your computer.

To watch any movies that you have downloaded to your computer, connect your phone to your computer. Next, drop the video file downloaded onto your computer onto your phone. Finally, connect your VR headset to your phone to watch the film. With this method, you can still adjust the size of the screen on your VR headset. With some headsets like the Samsung Gear, you can set it so your screen won’t change perspective, even if the space around you is moving.

Stream videos from YouTube.

YouTube is full of 3D and 360-degree movies for you to experience. For many VR headsets, you need to download an app so that your device can tell which kind of video you want to watch from YouTube. To find videos on YouTube, first search and choose a 3D video from the YouTube site. Next, tap the video icon on the play bar and select 360. Finally, select the kind of 3D your app tells you to play. If you’ve selected the correct video type, you’ll be able to watch your movie clearly on your headset.

<![CDATA[How to Stream the Top Films from Sundance 2017]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/stream-top-films-sundance-2017/ Wed, 15 Mar 2017 20:00:02 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=8858 The Sundance Film Festival took place from January 19th to January 29th this year in Park City, Utah. The film festival is the biggest independent film festival in the US, with hundreds of thousands of people attending. The festival has been around since the 1970s, and has grown from a small festival into a festival populated with high-profile Hollywood actors and the like.

There are dozens of awards that are given out every year at the Sundance festival. Some of these awards include: the Grand Jury Prize, the Audience Award, the Directing Award, and the World Cinema Award, among various other awards and subcategories. Both national and international films are able to be submitted to the festival.

Since the festival already took place, it will be easier to watch many of the 2017 nominated and award-winning films through an online streaming service. This is especially true due to the budget of many independent films — distributing a film online would be more cost-effective than distributing a DVD copy. Still, many of the Sundance winners will appear in theaters this year before being released on streaming sites. Without further ado, here are some of the best films from the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and where and when you can watch them online.

February 2017

On March 10th, Netflix will be getting Burning Sands, which is a drama that they distributed and produced. On the 24th of this month, the film, I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, will also be available to stream on Netflix. It’s a netflix original movie that stars Melanie Lynsky and Elijah Wood.

March 2017

The film, Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, debuts on Netflix on March 17th. On March 31st, The Discovery will premiere, which is a sci-fi romantic film created by Netflix.

May 2017

The documentary about the Grateful Dead, called Long Strange Trip, will be available on Amazon on May 26th.

Release Dates To Be Determined

Landline, which is a family drama-comedy starring Jenny Slate, will be available on Amazon Prime sometime this year, perhaps after a theatrical release. The Big Stick (a comedy) and City of Ghosts (a documentary about the rise of ISIS) will likely be released in theaters before being released on Amazon Prime later this year.

Other films coming to Netflix this year include: Casting JonBenet, Chasing Coral, The Mars Generation, Berlin Syndrome, To the Bone, Icarus, The Incredible Jessica James, and Fun Mom Diner, among others. Some of these will likely be released in the spring.

<![CDATA[Hulu vs. Netflix: Which Service Works Better on Your Phone?]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/hulu-vs-netflix-service-works-better-phone/ Fri, 21 Oct 2016 19:06:14 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=4989 Both the Netflix and Hulu mobile apps utilize a similar design across devices, which makes the apps easy to use, whether you’re accessing them on a TV, computer, tablet, or phone. Netflix and Hulu tend to work best on your TV or computer. You have full access to all of the apps’ features and experience few glitches and loading issues. But, when you try to access either app on your mobile device, there seems to be never-ending connectivity issues, despite a seemingly reliable Wi-Fi connection. What gives?

If your Wi-Fi isn’t stable or fast, you might experience more issues using the streaming apps on your phone. While it might be tempting to use your phone’s data to watch a new episode of your favorite TV show on the go, this isn’t a good move for those who have smaller monthly data plans. If your Wi-Fi connection is reliable, sometimes connectivity issues can occur because your device is too far from your router. While other devices may not have issues using the service farther from the router, it may be harder for your phone to achieve a stable connection.

If you’re having trouble using or loading other apps on your device, a far away router may be the issue. This can be solved by moving closer to the router, or else moving your router to a more central location in your home. Generally, you may experience less connectivity issues with the Netflix mobile app than the Hulu app, because Netflix claims it can function at a lower connectivity speed. If other apps are working well, then it could be an app-specific problem. Before you report an issue, double-check your internet connection and try restarting your device.

Which App Has Better Mobile Features?
Both mobile apps typically have great video and sound quality, though this will vary depending on your connection speed. Again, Netflix tends to stream videos at a higher quality than Hulu. It’s often easier to cast Netflix to your TV. With Hulu, this process can be difficult. As for watching videos, the Netflix app is also more likely to remember where you left off in a TV episode than Hulu. It can be hard to rewind or fast-forward on both apps, but this is often easier to do on Netflix. Unless you have the premium version of Hulu, you may have to sit through the same commercial you saw a second ago. It may also be difficult to sync your Hulu watch list across devices, or to add new videos or full seasons on your phone. Netflix is thus the clear winner when it comes to use on your mobile device.

<![CDATA[You Can Stream the Olympics Live on your Android]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/can-stream-olympics-live-android/ Mon, 15 Aug 2016 22:39:35 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=2953 The 2016 Olympic Games began in Rio de Janeiro on August 5. We know you’re pumped. But you can’t stop living your life until the games end on August 21.

Luckily, the NBC Sports app streams all of the Olympics coverage from NBC, MSNBC, and other channels. You can stream popular sporting events live from your smartphone, as well as highlights and full-event replays. The app’s only downside is limited to people who have cut the cable cord: you need a cable provider log-in to stream most of the content available. If you’ve unsubscribed from cable, you’ll need to borrow log-in credentials from a family member or friend. Once you’ve done that, navigate back to this page for an Olympic-style play-by-play of how to download and use the NBC Sports app on your phone.

Downloading the App

  1. Search for the “NBC Sports” app in the Google Play store.
  2. Download the app.
  3. Once the app is downloaded, open it on your phone.
  4. Once opened, the app will prompt you to enter the username and password you use with your cable provider.
  5. Enter your credentials, and you’re in!
  6. If you want to watch the events without sound, you can click the “CC” — or closed captioning — icon in the player control to watch events silently.

Navigating the App

The NBC Sports app has several levels of content. On top, you can scroll through live and upcoming events. Simply click on the event you want to stream. In addition to these live events, the app offers highlights and full-event replays from competitions that took place earlier in the day or week.

If you only follow certain competitions, you can scroll down to icons of your favorite sports. Say you want to follow gymnastics. First, click on the green gymnastics icon. This icon will navigate you to a gymnastics page that plays live events, lists the schedule for upcoming gymnastics events, and provides replays of events you missed. For popular events, each sports page also includes interviews and features about the athletes competing.

If you want to make sure your NBC Sports app is able to play up-to-the-minute Olympics coverage, download PSafe Total. Its Internet Booster function closes applications running in your phone’s background to speed up your Internet playback, give you browsing without lag time, and enabling you to minimize your data usage.
