Now that we use our phones for almost everything — such as online shopping, taking and sharing photos, and sending emails — we have a lot of sensitive data stored on our phones that needs to be protected.

Luckily, if you have the DFNDR app installed on your device, and have enabled the Anti-Theft feature, you won’t have to worry about someone else accessing your personal data. With this features enabled, you can perform various tools remotely, all through your Google registration.

The Anti-Theft feature includes to lock down your device remotely, find your phone’s location on a map, activate a loud alarm to find it nearby, and more. If you are using your Android device, click here for a shortcut to activate the feature:

Activate Anti-theft02

Continue reading to learn how to use this tool to protect your data and find your phone if it’s lost or stolen.

How to Protect Your Device with Anti-Theft

To remote control your device and stop thieves from accessing your apps and media files, you should have enabled the DFNDR’s Anti-Theft feature previously.

Activate Anti-theft02
To locate your device on a computer, visit my.psafe.com and enter your Google account information for the initial activation of the anti-theft features. Through the website you can remotely sound an alarm to audibly find your phone, erase all data, locate and lock your device, or find out if your SIM card has been tampered with. If the unit is connected to the Internet and has a charged battery, you can see the location of your phone. Remember, it’s important not to cancel your SIM card before you try to access these tools.

To access the anti-theft features on the website, click the “+” button in the bottom right-hand corner. Your screen should display, from top to bottom, the following options: “remove,” “trigger an alarm,” “remove data,” “block device screen,” and “find.” Each of these functions are designed to give greater security to the user and provide them with the precise location of their device when connected.

If your device appears to be offline or disconnected with no Internet connection, don’t fret. You can activate the actions “block device screen,” “remove data,” and “trigger an alarm” so that as soon as your phone is turned on and/or the Internet connection is restored, your actions will push through. If you are online, you will follow the same steps, but instead the message will say, “command sent to the device,” “successfully deleted data,” or “successfully locked” whenever the action is completed.

It’s important to note that you should contact the police immediately if you can locate your stolen phone through DFNDR’s Anti-Theft feature. Do not try to obtain your stolen device without police officials. You want your device to remain safe — but it’s important that you’re safe, too.

<![CDATA[The Internet of Things is at Risk of Hacking]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/internet-things-risk-hacking/ Mon, 28 Nov 2016 18:53:19 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=6131 Today, we depend heavily on devices connected to us and to each other via wireless networks. These technologies have changed the way we do everything from conducting business to finding a date. But, how safe are our devices from hacking? Here are some of the everyday things that are at risk.

 • Mobile Devices — Hackers can access your phone, tablet, or laptop more easily when you’re jumping on unsecured Wi-Fi networks. Keep up on software updates and never install apps from untrustworthy sources.

 • Personal computers — Your home computer is a lot less likely to be hacked if you only use your secure home network to access the Internet. Of course, you still have to be vigilant about the sites you visit and the links you click on. Never install something you aren’t sure about, and don’t enter personal information on a non “https” site.
 • Commercial and Governmental Networks and Servers — The most talked-about hacks lately have been those targeting the computer networks of large corporations or government agencies. These hacks are often massive data harvesting operations, like the recent Yahoo! security breach.
 • Medical Devices — Yes, even medical devices are potentially at risk to be hacked. Medical devices that are connected to a wireless network are susceptible to infiltration. While no malicious medical device hacks have been attempted so far, the potential is enough to cause industry players to start taking steps to protect connected devices.
 • Appliances — So, could hackers get inside your TV, fridge, or toaster? Technically, yes. If you use smart appliances that are connected to the Internet, the potential for hacking exists. Of course, it’s not all that likely that someone is interested in hacking your refrigerator, but we should all be more aware of the devices we use and the vulnerabilities they might have.

Potentially, anything that connects to a wireless network can be hacked. For most people, it’s the mobile devices we carry around with us everyday that are at the highest risk. To ensure that your devices are safe from unwanted visitors, install a comprehensive security app with a high level of anti-virus protection like PSafe Total.

<![CDATA[How to Tell if Your Android Has Been Hacked]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/tell-android-hacked/ Tue, 02 Aug 2016 23:26:07 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=2582 Nowadays, smartphones are how most of us stay connected to the world around us. Emails, text messages, phone calls — in a single tap we can send information to anyone, wherever they may be. We can also receive anything at any time, and what that means is that our phone is constantly at risk of being hacked remotely. Hackers can take control of a phone and access all our files through a single text message or an application. Given how much sensitive information is held on our phones, it’s of the utmost importance to keep them secure. The majority of hacks happen without the user knowing, but there are a few telltale signs to look out for that can help identify when a hack has happened, and ultimately protect your device.

1. Unusual cell phone charges

One key sign that malware has been downloaded onto your phone can be found in the form of odd charges on your phone bill. Hackers often use devices to send premium text messages (such as subscriptions or voting services), which can incur charges to your account. If you find any billing amounts that appear out of the ordinary, reach out to your service provider to find out where they came from and determine if a hacker has accessed your phone.

2. Data Access Patterns

Malware downloaded through a malicious app will often use data to turn your phone into a spam relay. This allows anyone, not just known users, to send information to your phone. If your phone is hacked in this way, it can lead to you becoming more susceptible to another hack and receiving unwanted advertisements. Luckily, Android phones allow you to track your data usage (just go into settings). If any of your apps are using an abnormally high amount of data, chances are they’re malicious.

3. Rapid Changes in Battery Life

If a hacker is accessing your phone, or running malware on your device, it will cause your battery to drain. Look out for rapid changes in your battery life, as this may be a sign that your phone has been hacked. Keep in mind, your battery will only drain when malware is being run, and sophisticated malware can lie dormant for days or weeks to avoid suspicion. Hacks can happen at any time, and so it’s important to constantly be on the lookout. To see if any apps are using up an unusual amount of battery, download PSafe’s PowerPRO.

For Extra Protection

Look no further than PSafe Total, which offers an extra layer of security to effectively prevent against hacks. Additionally, its AV scan feature can check for threats across all your phones’ files, allowing you to instantly detect any threats to your device.
