Developed by Google, the app offers photographers 26 tools and filters to improve their photos, including image-tuning and different themes. The app launched in 2011, and is a favorite for many who like to take photos on their smartphones. However, the app became even better in 2017 with a range of highly-requested updates.

In 2012, Google bought the original designer of the Snapseed app, Nik software. While users still liked and used Snapseed, Google didn’t issue many updates for the app during its first years of ownership, which left many to wonder if the company would even continue running Snapseed. In 2015, however, Google updated Snapseed to version 2.0, and since then, the app has received regular updates.

Snapseed is free and available to download in the Google Play store. The following list of updates may make you want to download — or redownload — Snapseed.

Curves

A standard photo-editing feature, Curves lets users adjust color, brightness, and tone by changing these features along a precise grid. Snapseed v2.15 added a Curves editing feature that lets users edit this way. In addition, the new version includes several Curve presets for quick edits.

If you’ve never used Curves, it isn’t a tricky program to master. To edit your photos using this software, open the picture you want to edit, and then tap the pencil icon to bring up Snapseed’s editing tools. To adjust your photo using Curves, tap on “Curves” for the grid and curve line to appear on your photo.

Text Boxes

While Snapseed users could already insert text boxes, the new update lets users insert text boxes with multiple text rows. This option was more desired that you may have realized — many people did want to include more text in their photos.

Face Detection

Face Detection was already included in Snapseed, but users cited problems with the functionality of the feature. Now, the face detection feature has become more precise. The update lets users ask for another Face Detection run-through if the app doesn’t notice a face right away. Remember, though, that this is a more thorough face detection option, which means that it will take longer to detect a face.

Black and White Images

Users found black and white images excessively grainy. The new Snapseed update has improved the grain quality on these images. Now you can take black and white photos like a pro.

<![CDATA[The Best Photo Storage Apps for Your Device]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/best-photo-storage-apps-device/ Wed, 19 Oct 2016 11:24:21 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=4875 Photos and videos can suck up huge amounts of your storage space, leaving you without enough room for new apps. Limited storage space makes your entire system slow to a crawl. Luckily, there are plenty of cloud apps that let you store your photos away from your phone, freeing up extra room on your device. Here are three of our favorites.

Amazon Photos
With this app, you’ll have unlimited space to store your photos. This app also offers a feature that lets you automatically sync your photos to your Amazon Cloud drive. The app works really well unless you try and download a larger image, at which time the Cloud drive will automatically make the picture smaller. Although, most phone cameras capture smaller images, some Android cameras can capture large megapixel pictures, so this might not be the app for you. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, the Cloud Drive Photos is free to use. If you’re not, you can buy the app and cloud storage for $11.99 per year.

Google Photos
Google Photos is an editing app that helps you store and sort your photos on cloud storage. Although the app is already the default photo editing app on most Android phones, it’s also a good app to store and edit your photos. In addition to offering cloud sorting and automatic sync, the free Google Photos app lets you work with automatic editing features and search your photos using an image analysis.

Uploadr
The mobile app paired with the popular photo sharing community Flickr works so well because you can set it to automatically upload your photos in bulk. Flickr gives you tons of free cloud storage, too — 1TB to be exact, which stores more than 300,000 average-sized photos. To scroll through and share your photos, Flickr has the technology down pat. While the phone uploader is free, you’ll have to pay $5.99 per month to use the uploader for desktops. One problem with Flickr, however, is that it won’t accept RAW files. Plus, Yahoo doesn’t always provide excellent customer service to Flickr users.

<![CDATA[The Polaroid Swing App is Coming to Android]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/polaroid-swing-app-coming-android/ Fri, 07 Oct 2016 21:14:37 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=4514 You may have grown up using Polaroid instant cameras, or maybe you know of them because they’ve recently come back in style. Polaroid has reinvented themselves for the modern age, and now offers more than a selection of instant cameras. They also offer smart phones, wireless printers, dash cams, tablets, televisions, and apps.

One of their most popular apps, Polaroid Swing, is another way to view your shot — by capturing and viewing it in motion. This essentially turns your images into 3D images. If you ever wanted your photos to “come alive” like those in the magical world of Harry Potter, then this is the app for you.

The Polaroid Swing app, which is currently available for iPhones, will soon be available for Android devices through the Play store. Here’s all that you need to know about the app before you download it:

How it Works
Polaroid Swing is similar to other GIF-making apps, like Boomerang, but it sets itself apart in many ways. You begin by capturing a “one-second” photo and choosing a filter. The app can capture up to 60 frames per second, which makes for a smoother animated photo. The photos are then “activated” by moving your phone side to side, or else by moving your finger over the photo. Move your phone to the left to go backwards in time, and right to move time forward. The photo will move according to the speed you move your phone. If you move your phone slowly, for example, the photo will move in slow motion. You can also view these photos on your computer, in the same fashion, but instead of moving your device you move your cursor back and forth over the image. Play around with the app and see which moments look best in this format. This might include images of fireworks, or an incredible dance move.

A positive aspect of the app is that you can easily share your photos on Facebook or other social media platforms. Your friends and family can then view your photos, in motion — no download of the app necessary. It’s another way to capture and view your best memories. It’s in your control, and at whatever speed you choose — the photos will not move unless you’re moving them. Polaroid’s focus on the full experience of an “instant,” combined with the company’s trend-factor, could make this app especially popular among those who grew up with Polaroid cameras. But only time will tell if it can be a true competitor to other GIF-making applications.

<![CDATA[Photo App Prisma Launching on Android Devices]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/photo-app-prisma-launching-android-devices/ Fri, 29 Jul 2016 19:47:14 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=2498 Photo App Prisma Launching on Android Devices

Make your image a work of art; no, really — at least when you have the new Prisma app for Android installed. Prisma has already created a stir in the Apple world. Now it’s here for Android, after only five days of beta testing through special invite in the Android store.

With such an amazingly fast turnaround, everyone is hopping onboard. Read on for what it is and why you should download it now.

What is Prisma for Android?

Prisma is a camera app from Russian developer Prisma Labs, Inc. While it does use filters, they don’t resemble anything you find on photo-sharing giant, Instagram. Instead, the app is a blend of modern art meets photo filters. With more than thirty filters to choose from, it will keep any photo sharing fan snap happy.

Do note that, with the default settings, there is no way to save your work to your smartphone after you add filters. Before you dig into the Prisma app, click on the “Settings” icon to fix this problem. Under this menu, you can toggle the switch in order to save your original photos, save your artwork automatically, and add a watermark. Then, head back to the main screen.

Snap a photo or choose one from your image gallery. Crop or rotate the image. Next, choose from among a slew of different filters, select the blending level you prefer by dragging your finger across the screen, and finally release it into the wild.

Filters include paper art, electric, candy, transverse line, mosaic, and many more. They mimic the styles of famous artists like Van Gogh and Picasso. Breaking Bad fans will enjoy the reference to the hit show with a filter just for them.

With the touch of a button, you can easily connect your Instagram account, save and share your Prisma filtered image via text message or email, and save it to your Google Drive, your Keep folder, or your other social networks that are already installed on your Android smartphone.

The makers of the app are talking of removing the less popular filters, leaving behind only the best of the best. So try not to get too attached to a particular filter just yet!
