It seems like there is always news of companies giving away users’ personal information, or of hackers forcing their way into a system. But when it comes to sending messages that you want only your intended recipient to read, you have a few options. The following will discuss four encrypted messaging apps you can use on Android.

Open Whisper Systems

This is open source coding at its finest. The high-quality messaging function is perfect for Android. You can send whatever group, text, picture, or video message you need to send without SMS or MMS fees. Every message is end-to-end encrypted. You won’t need to remember any special login info, either: you will use your phone and contact info. It’s free to use and doesn’t include ads due to donations and grants.

Telegram for Android

More than 100 million active users have turned to Telegram for Android in just two and a half years. Telegram promises strong encryption using a combination of 256-bit symmetric AES encryption, 2048-bit RSA encryption, and Diffie-Hellman secure key exchange. What’s more, you can add a little fun to your messages with photo and video editing tools and an open sticker/GIF platform.

Wickr Me

This is a secure messaging app for Android with free end-to-end encrypted text, video, picture, and voice messages. Set the amount of time you want to hang onto a message before it automatically terminates. Your Wickr ID is anonymous to those who lie outside your network, so you don’t have to worry.

Gliph

Did you send something you regret? With Gliph, your deletion happens on both sides of the server so that deleted message is gone. The service doesn’t track or follow you. Turn off the password reset option with Gliph’s Lockdown™ Privacy Protection and no one will be able to get into your account except for you.

<![CDATA[What to Expect from The New Android Messages]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/expect-new-android-messages/ Sun, 02 Apr 2017 14:00:33 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=9425 Android has recently replaced Google Messenger with Android Messages on all devices. We’ll go over what to expect now that this change is in effect. First, though, ensure the security of your Android Messages app. While communicating via text message or a messenger app is a great way to contact friends and family, it isn’t always secure. DFNDR’s Applock feature can help with this issue. It is an unbeatable application lock to protect your privacy. With this feature you can lock your Android Messages, Facebook, contacts, images, and other apps with a second password, even if the device itself is unlocked. You can easily select which apps you want to protect.

Applock prevents thieves or malicious individuals from gaining access to your applications and stealing your private information. It also prevents them from leaking the information that you have in your social media and communication apps. Applock will help to ensure that all of your information is for your eyes only, even if your phone is lost or stolen. Click here to lock your apps and protect your sensitive data now:

So, if you were wondering where your Google Messenger application went — it’s gone. Android Messages has replaced Google Messenger as the default messaging application on Android smartphones. The following will examine some of the new features available with this Android Messages update.

Introducing: Android Messages

You shouldn’t notice too many substantive differences between the two applications. However, there are subtle nuances. For example, you will notice a wider array of emojis available in this new system. Don’t miss your Google Messenger too much, though, because Android Messages has implemented a variety of improvements that will make texting much easier. For instance, the picture and video sharing is much faster with this update.

Moreover, the search function has become much more navigable. You can now easily search through contacts and conversations to locate your desired conversation thread more quickly. Additionally, the aesthetics of this application have made vast improvements. The colorful design will make your digital communications more enjoyable and fun.

You also have more security control with this update. You can block people you don’t want to hear from, and archive messages. Lastly, depending upon your data carrier, you may be able to send messages over your Wi-Fi or your data network, and have access to read receipts. This will enable you to see if your friends have viewed your message or not. This feature can be turned off, though, if you don’t want to come off as rude when avoiding someone.

<![CDATA[WhatsApp Now Features Essential Additions]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/whatsapp-now-features-essential-additions/ Thu, 04 Aug 2016 18:16:46 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=2660 WhatsApp has had a remarkably bustling eighteen months since its acquisition by Facebook. In that time, it released two much needed updates: end-to-end encryption and in-app voice calling. Now, WhatsApp is doing one better and releasing new updates in the Beta version.

New WhatsApp Features
WhatsApp is a free messaging app that enables users to call or text by using an internet connection. Files have been discovered within the beta app that point to the integration of Apple Music. This update could let users easily share songs that are stored on their phones or perhaps give Apple Music subscribers the ability to exchange songs. This feature could help streamline the music sharing process, taking away users from popular music sharing sites like Spotify.

New WhatsApp Voicemail and Call Back Features
Voicemail and call back have appeared in WhatsApp beta version 2.16.189. Finally, WhatsApp will provide more functionality, crossing off two more items from a list of things that WhatsApp devotees have been asking for.

If your call isn’t answered, you will have the option to either call back the person (a redial), or you could press and then hold the microphone to send a voice message — without having to leave the screen you are on. That’s a convenient and timely addition that could help further assert WhatsApp dominance. Users have previously enjoyed an end-to-end encryption across all its platforms, bold and italic text formating, and a new “Settings” screen back in March.

Do you want “in” to test the new WhatsApp beta? It’s easy to get in the new features. Just know that there will be some issues with any beta testing. Report the problems so developers can improve the product.

  1. Head to the Google Play Store beta listing for WhatsApp.
  2. Make sure you are logged into your Gmail account then click “Become a Tester.”
  3. Return to the Google Play Store and update WhatsApp.

<![CDATA[How to Recover Deleted Facebook Messages]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/recover-deleted-facebook-messages/ Wed, 29 Jun 2016 15:44:56 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=1767 Chances are you’ve spent a lot of time on the Facebook Messenger app. After all, it’s currently used by 900 million people worldwide. But, did you know your deleted Facebook messages don’t truly disappear? You can recover these deleted Facebook messages fairly quickly, and it’s much easier than you think. Just follow these simple steps, and voilá! Your messages will be recovered in no time:

Step One
First, simply log into your Facebook account. Once you’re in, go to your “Settings” in the top right corner of the window, which will then take you to your “General Account Settings.” At the bottom of the page, you will see “Download a copy of your Facebook data.” Click on the link attached to the first three words.

Step Two
Then, you’ll be brought to a page where you can download everything you’ve done on your Facebook account since you first created it; that’s right, everything. Click on the green button towards the top of the page that says “Start My Archive.” You will then be prompted to type in your password again, after which Facebook will inform you that you’ll soon be receiving an email confirming that your data is ready for download. It may take somewhere between two to three hours for you to receive this email, but when it arrives, you’ll see a link for downloading your archive.

Step Three
Once you’ve received this link, you must reenter your password before you can download the archive. Then, click the “Download Archive” button, which should appear immediately upon entering your password. Your archive will then download to your computer. Unzip the archive, and open the file labeled “Index.” From there, click “Messages,” and your entire history should be laid out before you! All of your past messages will load, including the ones you accidentally (or intentionally?) deleted.

To quickly locate the specific message you’re looking for, you should search for a keyword. You can do this by pressing “CTRL + F,” and typing in a keyword or phrase. Once you have found the message, you can copy and paste it into a Word document to save it.

Mission Accomplished
Sure, it’s not the fastest process out there, but it’s definitely doable! For further information on recovering deleted data, or any other questions about Facebook, check out our PSafe blog for other social media related posts, and how-tos.
