Your Devices, Not Your Home]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/spring-cleaning-home-phone-devices/ Fri, 14 Apr 2017 14:00:23 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=9982 It’s that time of year again to give your home a good, deep cleaning. Why not apply that same attitude towards cleaning up your smartphone, tablet, and computer? Your various devices collect a lot of files and information over time, and if you don’t regularly remove old files, apps, and photos, in addition to junk files, then your devices will slow down. If your phone is running slowly lately, the first step you should take is to clean out old, unnecessary files with Quick Cleanup:

Remove Old, Unwanted, and Duplicate Photos

How many times have we all been caught taking several shots of one thing — be it a selfie, a landscape or an object. One of the best ways to clean out a phone and speed it up is to remove those duplicate photos. A great tool for this is to use DFNDR’s Duplicate Photos feature. It will quickly scan your device for repeated photos and allow you to select which ones you want to delete, so you never lose those moments. The best part? You won’t have to spend a long time browsing through photos on your phone, and you’ll free up space quickly. Click here to clear your phone of repeated photos:

Get Rid of Unwanted Videos, Music Files, Contacts, and More

If you like to store music on your smartphone or tablet, then it’s time to sort through your music files and delete songs you no longer listen to. This goes for any videos you have on your device, too. Consider moving music and videos that you’re hesitant about to cloud storage so you never lose them, leaving you the option to access them later. This applies to your computer as well: move any old music files and videos (that you don’t want to get rid of) to an external hard drive or cloud service.

If your contacts are littered with old phone numbers and names that you no longer recognize, then it’s time to delete them. You can use a similar approach with your email account, too.

Delete or Backup Old, Unwanted Computer Files

Just like your smartphone or tablet, your computer will collect a lot of files over the years — especially if you’ve transferred all of your old files from previous computers. Consider moving these files to an encrypted external hard drive to free up space on your computer. You could also scan your computer for old, junk files by using a reliable software.

That’s all there is to it! A proper spring cleaning of your devices will leave you feeling refreshed, and your devices lighter and like new (almost!). Consider this an Easter present to yourself — one that can apply to your home and electronics.

<![CDATA[How Do We Recycle Massive Amounts of E-Waste?]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/recycle-massive-amounts-e-waste/ Thu, 03 Nov 2016 13:47:24 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=5320 The Problem with E-Waste
The first problem with e-waste is that there’s a lot of it. Tens of millions of tons of electronic waste are produced every single year, and that number continues to grow. Why is it such a big deal? E-waste often contains toxic materials such as mercury, cadmium, lead, and chromium. These substances can harm ecosystems, pollute water supplies, and create serious health and and environmental hazards.

What Things Are Considered E-Waste?

  • DVDs and DVD players
  • Mobile Phones
  • Laptops, Tablets, and Home Computers
  • Batteries
  • Hard Disks
  • Monitors
  • Circuit Boards
  • Cables and Wires
  • Keyboards, Mice, and other Peripherals
  • Digital Cameras
  • Hard Drives
  • GPS Units
  • Video Game Systems
  • Printers and Scanners
  • Microwaves
  • iPods and MP3 Players
  • Modems and Routers

Other items like HVAC equipment and home appliances are sometimes considered e-waste too, so check with your local recycling facility.

How is E-Waste Recycled?
First, the items arrive at a recycling facility, where they are sorted. They are dismantled and broken down into their core components, which are divided up into categories based on what type of item they are and whether they can be re-purposed. Next, finer pieces and particles go through a shaking process using a conveyor belt to further separate them and reduce their size. After the remaining materials are reduced to even smaller particles, any dust is extracted and safely discarded. A magnet is then used to separate the metallic items out; copper, aluminum, and brass can be sold as raw materials or reused for manufacturing new products. After this, the plastic is separated from glass using water, and any re-usable or sellable materials are set aside while the remaining particles are disposed of.

How You Can Help
First, always recycle your e-waste. Never toss an old phone or computer monitor in the trash. Find your closest recycling plant and find out what kind of items they accept. Talk to your mobile service carrier. Many cell phone companies have e-waste recycling and device buyback programs. You can also help by taking take good care of your electronics so they don’t break down as quickly. Install system updates when they come out and use apps like PSafe Total to keep your device running smoothly and securely.

Despite the creativity level of these hacks, they unfortunately don’t solve everyday desktop issues like slow Internet speed and frozen screens. PSafe has a multitude of resourceful features that can make desktop life as smooth as it was always meant to be. These life hacks are even easier than making a box of toilet rolls filled with wires.

The Best Way to Boost The Internet
Slow Internet speed is as painful to experience as watching paint dry on the wall. Luckily, with PSafe Total’s Internet Booster, you can get faster Internet with a click of a button. It shuts down any applications running in the background of your device that are slowing your roll. Now you can happily go back to binge-watching YouTube videos without any lag time.

The Easiest Way to Clear Your Junk
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be exclusive to your home — or spring, for that matter. Over time, unnecessary files build up in your desktop, information stored into your computer from websites takes up space, and plenty of applications are left open, causing significant slowness in your device. With PSafe’s Quick Cleanup, all of this can be wiped clean in a matter of minutes. This will be probably your only favorite chore.

The Wifi Check You Didn’t Know You Needed
Sometimes finding a spot with good Wi-Fi can feel like finding a unicorn. For those days when you want to work at a cafe, you need to make sure that you’ve got the speediest and most secure Wi-Fi situation available. PSafe’s Wi-Fi Check system reviews the speed and network security of any Wi-Fi network you want to look into. This will save you the time, the headache, and the coffee money that comes with a slow network.

The Surest Way to Increase Space
Clearing out files for the sake of increasing storage space can take ages, and frankly, who has the time to go through everything they’ve got stored onto their computer? It would be wonderful to hire someone to go through the files for you — but without having to actually hire anyone. PSafe’s Memory Booster is the next best thing, and better. It optimizes your data and helps you decide what can be done to create more storage space and enhance the speed of your device. Who needs to hire anyone when you’ve got PSafe features ready to go?

<![CDATA[How to Safely and Easily Clean Your Computer]]> https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/safely-easily-clean-computer/ Fri, 16 Sep 2016 20:35:12 +0000 https://www.psafe.com/en/blog/?p=3752 You may have the best of intentions when it comes to caring for your computer. You don’t eat over it (too often). You don’t drink over it (that much). But you know you haven’t been caring for it like you should. Get it clean and ready for action in no time with these tips.

Clean your computer keyboard

It’s grimy, it’s gritty. Your computer keyboard needs a cleaning. Making your computer keyboard look and feel like new again is easy. To begin, turn off your laptop. Then, using baby wipes or similar products, rub gently over the keys. Do the same for your mouse. Disconnect the mouse, then gently rub the cleaning cloth all over it. Now, grab a can of compressed air, and spray away between the keys to remove the dust, pet hair, and occasional potato chip that likes to settle between them.

Clean your computer screen

Turn off your laptop so you can better see the great, big dirty splotches. For an LCD, you want to be especially careful that you don’t press too hard, and damage your screen. If you do, you’ll burn out the pixels. Using a dry microfiber cloth, not a paper towel or tissue to avoid scratching your screen, gently rub across your computer screen to clean off all the gunk. If you must, you may ever so slightly dampen the cloth, in order to remove stubborn dirty spots. Distilled water is the best choice and will keep from leaving spots behind.

Clean up your computer on the inside

Now that your computer is tied up on the outside, it’s time to clean it up on the inside. PSafe Total Windows is the perfect way to begin. Install PSafe TOTAL Windows. To begin, run a virus scan, and see if there are any hidden dangers lurking within your system. After the scan is complete, deal with any issues accordingly. Then, take a look at the suggestions offered within the software to help your computer run faster and smoother than ever. It will also identify temporary and unnecessary files, so you can delete those as well. Freeing up space will also help your laptop’s performance.

Keep it Clean

Now that your laptop is up to speed, keep it that way. Take the time to occasionally wipe down the mouse and keyboards, especially after family members have been ill, and wipe off the screen.

Be sure to consistently run PSafe Total Windows to ensure a fast-working, zippy computer that’s free from resource hogging viruses and malware. Follow the software’s suggestions for a computer that won’t let you down.
