Oscar Nominations: How to Stream This Year’s Movies
Watch the best films in theaters, or else stream them at home before this year’s Academy Awards on February 27. Learn how to now.
It’s finally that time of year: awards season. There’s the SAG Awards, the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, and of course, the Oscars. Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of which movies, actors, and actresses are in the running to win big. This year, like in many past years, there is one group of movies and celebrities whose names keep coming up over and over again in the nominations.
This year’s best picture nominees include: La La Land, Arrival, Lion, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Hacksaw Ridge, Manchester by the Sea, and Fences. Although a few of these movies have already swept up awards at other award shows (and seem to be frontrunners), one of the best parts about the Oscars is that it’s anyone’s game. No matter the previous outcomes, any movie could take home the coveted prize.
Even though La La Land’s Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have already won several awards for their performances, they are nominated alongside many other talented actors and actresses. In the best actress categories, other nominees include: Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga, Meryl Streep, and Natalie Portman. The other best actor nominees are: Andrew Garfield, Denzel Washington, Casey Affleck, and Viggo Mortensen. Hacksaw Ridge and Manchester by the Sea are available on Amazon, while many of the films are still available to view in theaters, like Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, La La Land, and Lion.
Aside from the best picture nominations, many other films and shows will be available on other streaming services. Florence Foster Jenkins, Hell Or High Water, and Deepwater Horizon will be available on iTunes while several of the documentary nominations like Extremis and 13th are available on Netflix.
